Reversible knitty-loopy scarf
The original for this scarf was the
'loopy & luscious scarf'
by Natalie Wilson published in
the Winter 02 issue of knitty.com.
It was love at first sight, but we thought we needed to make a reversible version.
This uses one ball of Merino Frappe (split pea)
and one ball of Labrador (earth),
knit up on size 15 circular needles. Finished size is 8" x60",
or it can easily be made into a Moebius.
- Cast on 20 stitches with Labrador.
- Knit 5 rows in garter stitch with Merino Frappe
[Make sure you have neat edges: purl the last stitch on every row,
and slip the first.
Also weave the Labrador yarn into the edge as you knit - I just
toss the yarn to the other side between the first and second stitch.]
- * Knit one row with Labrador, very loosely.
- Slide work back to the beginning of the needle.
- Pick up the Merino Frappe, and knit a row in seed stitch (k1 p1)
- Knit 4 rows in garter stitch with the Merino Frappe, still paying attention to
your edges and to weaving the Labrador along.
- * Repeat from * till you run out of yarn :-).
- Cast off with Labrador.
- Alternatively, knit till you have about 50" length, twist one end 180o
and graft the end with the first row to make a Moebius strip.
