The scarf du jour (Winter 04) seems to be very, very long, and fuzziness
still seems acceptable enough that I can indulge in it :-).
This has been for a time my favorite yarn mix,
one that I find extremely well suited for scarves.
The Splash looks absolutely fabulous, very
lustrous and shaggy. But the Merino Frappe
is the perfect
addition to it for a scarf, making it lighter, warmer,
and giving it a wee bit more body.
We're very taken with it, and find the gold version
to be perfect Pussy Galore attire :-).
For real pussies, we have a version that matches Juliette perfectly,
and she agrees about its comfort features.
Check our kit page for many good color combinations.
Crystal Palace also has a
much better picture.
This pattern is extremely easy. It may not be suitable as a true first project because of holding 2 yarns together and the stitches being somewhat obscured by the eyelash. But it's definitely fine to embark on as soon as you've done anything else. This is the best skill to result ratio you'll find anywhere.
Cast on 10 stitches.
Knit in garter stitch till Splash runs out.
Cast off, work in ends with yarn needle.
Voila!
Don't get tempted to do this in stockinette to practice your purl stitches - garter is necessary for fluffy yarns, to allow them to bloom. Our test in stockinette made something like a matted doggy bed, not at all the luxuriously plush results of the garter stitch. Likewise, any attempt at stich pattern will likely cause frustration in the maker, and in addition nobody will be able to distinguish it in the finished product.
